UNDERFLESH:

Exploring Fragility And Resilience

A Mixed-Media Installation In Six Interrelated Parts

1999-2014

“The source materials of the work come from actual interior and exterior images of her (Nobbe's) body—many from the surgeries, medical procedures, and tests performed over a two-year span from 1999-2000. The work is a meditation on the artist's encounter with deadly disease as well as her appreciation of the mysteries of life’s renewing forces and the interconnectedness of all things. The work moves away from the specificity of her own personal experience and incorporates broader questions of issues of mortality and the fragility and resilience of the human body…”
